Mrs. Samaratunga is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK).

She is the Co-Chairman & Jt. Managing Director of Mackwoods (Pvt) Ltd and functions as a Director of several Companies of the Mackwoods Group, including Agalawatte Plantations PLC, She was the first lady President of Rotary Club of Colombo. She co-chairs the Export Cluster of the National Council for Economic Development, together with the Secretary, Ministry of Export Development & International Trade. She was a member of the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission, and Vice-President of BIMSTEC Business Forum and she is also a member of the ICT Grants Commission of the ICT Agency.

She is the Chairperson of the Exporters Association of Sri Lanka, President of the Sri Lanka-Poland Business Council, President of the Sri Lanka-France Business Council and a member of the Chamber Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. She is also a Trustee of the National Agri Business Council.

She was awarded the Zonta Woman of Achievement for Industry and Entrepreneurship by the Zonta Club, headquartered in USA.
